A downhole motor is a powerful drilling tool designed to convert hydraulic energy into mechanical energy. It consists of a stator and a rotor, forming the power section. There are two main types of downhole motors: single lobe (1/2) and multi lobes (N/N+1), depending on the number of lobes in the stator and rotor. Generally, motors with more lobes generate higher output torque.

These motors are commonly used in various drilling operations, including directional and vertical drilling, horizontal drilling, deviation correction, coring, reaming, and sidetracking. They are typically used in conjunction with cone bits, diamond bits, and other drilling tools.
