A downhole motor is a drilling tool developed to convert hydraulic energy into mechanical energy. It consists of a power section, which includes a stator and a rotor. The motors are categorized as single lobe (1/2) or multi lobes (N/N+1) based on the number of lobes in the stator and rotor. Generally, motors with more lobes provide higher output torque.
These motors are commonly used in various drilling operations, such as directional and vertical drilling, horizontal drilling, deviation correction, coring, reaming, and sidetracking. They are often used in conjunction with cone bits, diamond bits, and other drilling tools.
